Transforming the Learning Environment with Innovative Classrooms
The CheongDae Times Senior Reporter Ye-seul Jang Our university has recently established two state-of-the-art classrooms, ALC (Active Learning Class) and HyFlex (hybrid + flexible), significantly enhancing the learning experience for students.
This initiative reflects a shift in educational paradigms, aiming to provide innovative learning environments tailored to diverse learning styles and needs. It underscores our commitment to delivering an improved educational experience for students. This transformation extends beyond mere physical enhancements; it plays a crucial role in strengthening interactions between professors and students while creating opportunities for active participation in learning.
The ALC classroom has been designed to prioritize a learner-centered approach, expanding advanced teaching and learning infrastructure to foster an environment based on Active Learning. In this space, the learning process focuses on communication between instructors and learners, providing an optimal setting for problem-based learning (PBL).
The ALC encourages students to engage actively in various learning activities, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding and problem-solving skills. This environment provides students the opportunity to express their opinions freely and interact with peers, thus expanding their knowledge.
The ALC classrooms also support lecture recording and online classes, allowing for flexible responses to remote learning needs. Immediate feedback during assessments enhances overall learning effectiveness. The introduction of ALC is expected to improve student satisfaction and contribute to a forward-looking teaching and learning service framework. Utilizing ALC allows students to better comprehend lecture content and provides opportunities for self-assessment, playing a significant role in improving overall academic performance. The HyFlex classroom is designed to offer a flexible learning environment that is resilient to external changes, such as those posed by COVID-19. This classroom enables students to choose different learning materials and teaching methods based on their individual circumstances, allowing classes to be conducted either in person or remotely. Equipped with advanced cameras and audio systems, HyFlex enhances the quality of online courses and establishes an environment conducive to continuous research and development in educational services.
The introduction of the HyFlex classroom offers students the opportunity to participate in online learning if they cannot attend classes in person, allowing them to receive attendance credit. This flexibility provides students with personalized education tailored to their learning styles.
Student So-eun Lee from the English Literature Department noted, “Before the new classrooms were introduced, many students attended classes in large lecture halls. While the shift to HyFlex has reduced the number of students that can be accommodated, it has created opportunities for all participating students to engage actively, especially in our department, which often holds small, elite courses. This change is particularly beneficial for students who require remote learning.”
She also added, “I hope the electronic lectern system used in HyFlex classrooms can be installed in other classrooms as well. The quality of the materials presented is superior to traditional projectors, and the various smart features are incredibly helpful during class.”
Student Jin Yong-jun from the Department of Korean Language Education, shared that he has had a comfortable and satisfying experience using the classroom, thanks to its modern facilities and equipment. He noted that the use of dual screens by professors enhances the quality of instruction, allowing for a higher standard of education compared to other classrooms.
Student Kim Nang-kyung from the Department of Korean Language Education, mentioned that the newly created classroom provides individual desks instead of integrated ones, making the learning environment more comfortable. She noted that the wide and clear screens effectively showcase course materials. Kim highlighted the advantage of being able to combine online and offline classes in the current educational landscape, enabling activity-centered learning.
Such student feedback emphasizes the necessity and effectiveness of the new classrooms, raising expectations for the future direction of education. The positive responses from students demonstrate that these educational innovations are indeed enhancing the learning environment.
The changes in our classrooms are expected to significantly contribute to a brighter future for education. The introduction of ALC and HyFlex classrooms plays an essential role in providing students with better learning experiences and enhancing communication with instructors. Personally, I believe that these changes are vital for improving the quality of learning. As technology evolves, educational methods must also adapt, and I hope these innovations lead to tangible benefits for students.
In conclusion, our university’s new classrooms focus on providing active and participatory learning environments for students. I hope these innovations play a crucial role in maximizing learning outcomes and nurturing future talents. Through these classroom enhancements, students will experience more engaging and effective learning, which I believe will ultimately contribute to the progress of our society.
This transformation extends beyond physical changes; it will positively influence how students learn and think. Therefore, it is crucial to continuously improve the educational environment and implement innovative teaching methods. If our university pursues this direction, it has the potential to become a leading model for future education. |
